A Living Will is written directive as to how, when and under what circumstances medical treatment is to be provided — usually withheld — in the event of a terminal illness and the inability to communicate what is desired.
This may be used to authorize witholding of treatment or life-sustaining measures where such treatment or measures would only prolong the dying process.
This is not euthanasia, mercy killing or assisted suicide. This is the right to die with dignity and without unnecessary, expensive, and often painful procedures which do not give lasting help.
